Dr. Convicted over Jackson’s Death-Siblings Support After Death

Michael Jacksons’ Doctor was sentenced today for his part in Jackson’s death. As the judge sentenced Dr. Murray for his role in the singer’s fatal overdose, he called it  “money-for-medicine madness.”

Let’s recall the long ago Jackson Five. Last year in the pre-holiday season, NPR did a series on siblings including musical groups of brothers, featuring the Jackson Five.  Michael Jackson was soon to be world famous lead. I loved Jackson and played his music all day when he died.

The Jackson Five stuck together through thick- and thin. Life was thick for them for many years and then thin- when Michael took the solo role to fame and the others melted into former child stars. But they have been especially tight since Michael Jackson death, this recent trial and today the conviction of Dr. Conrad Murray.

A sibling connection can be silenced by sibling rivalry. It can then sound like chalk scraping on a blackboard. Creedence Clearwater Revival, a 70’s group brother group, spun into chaos when younger brother Tom Fogerty tried to dominate their music and older brother John Fogerty rebelled. Their group fell apart and disbanded. When Tom died of AIDS from a blood transfusion in 1990, the brothers had never reconciled.

Is your brother or sister link like the Jackson or the Fogerty brothers? If it sounds like chalk, there’s time to try to start to repair it before the holidays. If not, over Mom’s holiday table, laden with holiday spirits, a broken sibling bond could lead, as a David Sedaris says,to a holiday on ice
